Installation & Usage Guide for Clawdbot (MobtBot)

Moltbot (formerly Clawdbot) is an open-source personal AI assistant that lets you run large language models (LLMs) locally on your computer and connect them to messaging apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, along with system access and browser capabilities.

📋 System Requirements

Node.js version ≥ 18.0

Supported operating systems: macOS, Linux, Windows.

🚀 Quick Start

1. Install Node.js

💡 Tip: If you already have Node.js version ≥ 18.0 installed, you can skip this step.

2. Install Claude Code

3. Configuration & Usage

3.1 Setup

When you run the installation command in step 1, once complete it will ask you a series of questions for initial setup such as connecting to AI tools, installing skills, etc. If after installation the Clawdbot onboarding interface shown below does not appear, you can run it manually with the command clawdbot onboard.

Onboarding mode
Select QuickStart for easier operation for new users

Model/auth provider
Select Skip for now — you will configure it in the json file after installation.

Filter models by provider
Select any value. The provider will be configured in the json file.

Default model
Select any value. The provider will be configured in the json file.

Select channel
Configure skills now?
Preferred node manager for skill installs
Install missing skill dependencies
Set GOOGLE_PLACES_API_KEY for goplaces?
Set GOOGLE_PLACES_API_KEY for local-places?
Set GEMINI_API_KEY for nano-banana-pro?
Set OPENAI_API_KEY for openai-image-gen
Set OPENAI_API_KEY for openai-whisper-api?
Set ELEVENLABS_API_KEY for sag?
Enable hooks?

Customize the above settings according to your needs

How do you want to hatch your bot?

It is recommended to choose "Open on WebUI" for easier use

Completing this step means the installation is nearly complete

3.2. Configure ~/.clawdbot/clawdbot.json

Make sure uv is installed

Set env variable GOOGLE_GEMINI_BASE_URL or GOOGLE_VERTEX_BASE_URL (vertex ai must be enabled)
